Queensland Gas Work Licence Training Pathway through MPAQ Training Services
If you hold an interim gas work licence, now is the time to plan your next skills step and work towards your full QLD Gas Work Licence.
MPAQ delivers the four required Certificate IV units of competency for eligible students working towards a full Queensland Gas Work Licence. With the right planning, students may be able to complete the required training units and workplace experience in as little as six months.
Who is this pathway for?
This training pathway is designed for students who:
- have completed a Certificate III in Plumbing or Certificate III in Gas Fitting
- hold an Interim Gas Licence issued by Resources Safety and Health Queensland
If you do not currently hold an interim gas licence, you may need to apply for one through Resources Safety and Health Queensland before progressing through this pathway.
What you need to complete
Students wishing to transition from an interim gas licence to a full Queensland Gas Work Licence are required to complete four Certificate IV competencies while their interim gas licence is still valid.

- MPAQ member price total for the four courses is $3,615 +gst. Non-member price total: $4,761 +gst. MPAQ members save 24% compared with the non-member total.
- MPAQ delivers these units as part of our RTO training course offering. The online sessions are delivered live and are held in four x 3½ hour sessions, students doing the online classes must attend all sessions.
- Students should speak with MPAQ Training Services early to understand the training pathway, available course dates and practical experience requirements.
Practical experience requirement
In addition to completing the required training units, students must also complete practical experience in the workforce.
This includes 60 hours of practical gas work experience and evidence across the required job types and activities.

If you want to be ready to apply for your full QLD Gas Work Licence in as little as six months, it is important to plan ahead.
Course dates may be limited, and students need to allow enough time to complete the four required units, gather practical experience and prepare the required evidence for their licence application.

MPAQ delivers training as a Registered Training Organisation. Gas work licences are issued by Resources Safety and Health Queensland. Completing training with MPAQ does not automatically guarantee licence approval. Students are responsible for meeting all licensing, qualification, experience, currency and application requirements set by Resources Safety and Health Queensland.
